Do the job well

Practical guidance for this exact task

Choose by the job the cover must do

Use a welcome-led cover for an ordinary Sunday, a schedule-led cover when several services must be distinguished, and a seasonal image when the church calendar provides the organizing idea. A photograph is useful only when the headline remains readable over it.

  • Ordinary Sunday: church identity, date and a short welcome
  • Liturgical or seasonal service: season or feast first, practical details second
  • Community event: event name, date, time, place and one action
  • Visitor-heavy service: add the address or a short “What to expect” cue

Print without surprises

Download the largest image, keep important words at least 0.25 inch from the trim edge, and test one physical copy before the full run. For a folded Letter bulletin, the cover becomes the right-hand panel on the outside of the sheet. The editor handles the finished page order when you choose booklet output.

  • Use 300 dpi artwork for a full-page print
  • Check grayscale contrast even when the main run is color
  • Avoid thin type over photographs
  • Keep the church logo proportionate and un-stretched
